Employment of personal care and service occupations is projected to grow 18 percent over the next ten years, much faster than the average for all occupations, which will result in about 1.2 million new jobs. Personal care aides are expected to account for about 6 out of 10 of these new jobs. Personal care aides, which are included in the same profile as home health aides, assist clients with daily living activities and demand for their services are expected to grow as the elderly population increases.

Animal care and service workers provide care for animals. They feed, groom, bathe, and exercise pets and other nonfarm animals.

Home Health Aides and Personal Care Aides

Home health aides and personal care aides help people with disabilities, chronic illnesses, or cognitive impairment by assisting in their daily living activities. They often help older adults who need assistance. In some states, home health aides may be able to give a client medication or check the client’s vital signs under the direction of a nurse or other healthcare practitioner.

Manicurists and pedicurists clean, shape, and beautify fingernails and toenails.

Recreation Workers

Recreation workers design and lead activities to help people stay active, improve fitness, and have fun.
