Learn the Algorithm for Success with a Software Engineering Degree

Software engineering is one of the most exciting and challenging careers in information technology. Software engineers design new software, from computer games to network control systems. They also create algorithms that perform computing tasks, manage the limitations of the hardware required to run the software they engineer and document their work using diagrams and flowcharts. Their tasks are dynamic, always changing as technology advances. If you're sharp, inquisitive, and adept with technology, a software engineering degree may be a great choice.

Getting Started with Software Engineering Degrees and Programs

If you're interested in becoming a software technologist, technician, or engineer, plan earn a four-year bachelor's degree in a computer-related field like computer science, math, or software engineering. Typical coursework in software engineering programs includes: advanced mathematics, computer information systems, operating systems; and, software design and construction. You can also learn software engineering skills through software engineering certification, which is usually offered through product vendors. Software engineering certification is a good move for those who have been in the field for several years and want to keep up with changing technology. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLM) reports the job outlook for software technologists, technicians and engineers, is excellent and predicts a 32% growth in employment between 2008 and 2018.
