My apologies to the gamblers in my reading audience, but in this particular case we are talking about the interviewing lottery that takes place at many college campuses throughout the country. As the number of companies coming to campuses stagnates or declines, the demand for available interview slots increases so much that demand often far outpaces supply. Many colleges have answered this demand/supply problem with some form of lottery (or bid) system.
For those of you fortunate enough not to be subjected to a lottery/bid system, feel free to skip the following sections. Or read along and thank your lucky stars that you don't have to go to such extremes to make the system work for you.
