Your role in helping us shape the future:

In this position, you will be an integral part of the Consumer Advice team. As the person responsible for publishing content to the Money, Health and Education pages on usnews.com, being meticulous and detail-oriented should be second nature for you. You should also be someone who remains calm under pressure and is able to effortlessly change gears when more pressing issues arise.

Technology should be a breeze for you, especially working in a CMS or navigating a spreadsheet. A background in HTML/CSS will make the job easier, as it will allow you to troubleshoot issues and resolve them much quicker.

Being successful in this role requires a mix of creativity and precision. You’ll be selecting images for articles and slideshows, creating infographics and making short videos, so having a good eye for photography and design will be beneficial. But you should match that creativity with a good eye for detail, as you are the last line of defense ensuring the content you publish to the site is accurate and formatted correctly.

To thrive in this role, you need to be able to work in a team setting and possess top-notch communication skills. You will work closely with a small production team and with people across the company on product launches such as Best Colleges, Best Jobs, Best Diets, Best Hospitals, Best Places and other U.S. News franchises.

Are you up to the challenge?

You will be working in a fast-paced journalism environment where you will be depended on to help staff troubleshoot a variety of technical issues, select photos for editorial content and work on product launches. Your ability to solve problems quickly and juggle myriad responsibilities will be crucial to ensuring the team meets its goals.

As part of the job, you’ll:

  • Produce Money, Health and Education articles
  • Build Money, Health and Education slideshowsSelect and edit photos
  • Update content on Money, Health and Education pages
  • Monitor section pages for problems, and correct them if they exist
  • Answer questions from team members about technical issues
  • Create infographics to accompany stories or project launches
  • Use video-editing platforms to build informative videos that support our content
  • Pitch in with problems or special requests from team members
  • Prepare content and page components in advance of project launches

Position Requirements

You should definitely have:

  • Proficiency in HTML/CSS, Photoshop and basic web production tasks
  • Experience using a CMS
  • Detail-oriented approach and ability to be adaptable to new assignments and processes
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Google web apps, Slack or equivalent software
  • Excellent communication and organization skills
  • Ability to collaborate with multiple teams
  • About 1-2 years of web production or related experience

It would be nice if you had:

  • General understanding of U.S. News ranking projects
  • Journalism experience, including editorial judgment and a familiarity with AP style
  • Up-to-date knowledge on internet publishing and metrics, with an acute understanding of SEO
  • An understanding of basic design principles and experience creating informative infographics
  • Interest in money-related topics, especially credit cards and loans

  • In New York City, the anticipated base salary for this position is $45,000 to $60,000. The actual base salary offered will depend on a variety of factors, including without limitation, the qualifications of the individual applicant for the position, years of relevant experience, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, interview performance, and if applicable, the location in which the applicant lives and/or from which they will be performing the job.
